The renowned teacher David Howard was Director of the Harkness Ballet School on the East Side of Manhattan during the mid-seventies and the accomplished pianist, John Childs was a member of the staff. They forged a unique professional relationship amidst the exciting and creative environment of this legendary school founded by Rebekah Harkness. Craig Unger in Blue Blood, his biography of Rebekah Harkness, talks in terms of The Harkness School of Ballet at Harkness House being a serious force in the New York Dance world and that an opportunity to study there was coveted by young dancers.
